My hair has gone prematurely grey over the top can I colour it so it looks like blonde highlights?

The grey is where people commonly place highlights, being a guy I don't want to change the colour of the rest of my hair, what products will colour the grey but not the rest of my hair? any suggestions?

Highlighting your hair may seem like a reasonable solution to your premature graying, but overall it is not going to solve your problem without causing problems of its own. When you highlight the hair you will either have to have it pulled through a frosting cap or "foiled" which doesn't require a cap, but the separation of individual hair strands for the application of bleach. Both techniques will provide you with beautiful highlights, but they require a great deal of maintenance. That maintenance requires that you see a stylist every 6 weeks to do touch-ups so that the highlights don't result in "roots", a line of demarcation that makes your coloring attempt obvious to everyone. My suggestion is for you to give haircolor a try. There is a product available called "Just for Men" and it will only involve 5 minutes of your time to work. This product is a semi-permanent haircolor, it contains no perioxide which means it will not change your natural color at all, it will simply coat the gray hairs and make them appear much more like highlights, closer to what your hair would naturally lighten if you spent a lot of time in the sun. This product does wash out gradually and will need to be reapplied every 6 weeks, but it won't produce any dramatic changes at all, so you won't have "roots" to deal with, ever. They also have formulas for your facial hair, if you have any that is becoming gray. I'd say go to a salon-they can get you started on the right track to make it look natural and show you how to do it right by yourself.

definitely do blonde hightlights, they hide the grey really well. I have dark brown hair and it really works well to do highlights.

Also, if you don't want to color, see a salon for a color stick... its a cover up for your hair that matches the color and washes out when you shower.

Just go to any store to the hair colour section and pick a colour.. (no theres no diff between female %26amp; male hair dye.. no matter what the TV wants you to think.. in fact the "for men only" stuff is the crappier stuff..

Yould likely be better to just do a brown dye job overall though..

Get some light brown highlights. I personally think that blonde highlights in dark brown hair look really good, but if you don't like it I would say either light brown, or burgandy would look nice. Depends on your skin tone.

I would say different shades of brown like when hair get's highlighted naturally in the sun because that way it'll look really natural and great (not fake like some people's I know because they got the wrong colour and it's like orange! ew!). so go for that kind of colour. Maybe get some lowlights too. And ask the hairdresser, most hairdressers will chatter on about anything so it may as well be about hair. Ask her for tips and that, you should get some great advice! noo dont and if you so do it it will be hella breakage becasue anytime u add color lighter than your hair means ur putting bleach and porixide in it so i dont really recommend it and it will NOT grow back

if ya want to put the pink in it, i would! i would do just a few highlights like on the top of ur head all the way down. i wouldnt go overboard though. just a few like 5 or 6, but good luck with that!

If you put any bright colour in your hair just make sure that you bleach it first otherwise the colour will not work. I have had pink dtreaks through my hair before when it was dark brown and it looked really good. Purple and bright blue also look really good. It is a lot of upkeep though if you want them to look bright all of the time. I has redying the streaks every 2 weeks to keep them looking bright!

I would say like a smokey gray eyeshadow with black eyeliner and mascara mix eyeshadows together if you are having trouble too..make your own colr try mixing like a dark green and gray together of green and brown..experiment!!..Good luck

I would recommend shades of brown and plum. Those colors really bring out green eyes. You don't want the same color eye shadow as your eyes, you want a color that will really make your eyes stand out. Black/Brown liner works great with green eyes and a warm peachy color would work with your skin tone.

You can wear whatever color you like, really. If you wear black eyeliner, you're going for a stronger look, brown softer...

now to eyeshadows, I like to stay in the earth colors. I think browns go with anything. But it's really up to you and what you're wearing. Although, it's not a good idea to wear a bright blue shirt *hypothetically speaking* and bright blue eyeshadow.

brown eyeshadows tend to look VERY nice with green eyes and olive skin.

Blush should blend in to your skin so it looks like a natural blush/glow than you actually doing it.

I can't tell you exactly what color, but this is what I was taught.

For tan skin - go with redish pinks or darker shades -- light pinks don't show up and they end up looking fake

Light skin - pinks and softer tones, they tend to show up a little bit more naturally. dark will be very fake.

So when you go to the store put it up next to your cheecks and try to picture it on. Also, the new blush sticks that look like oversized lipsticks are AMAZING and they tend to have a more natural effect than the powder. You can find them at Avon and they last for like 6 months or more.

I would use black liquid eyeliner and black pencil eyeliner. You can use gray eyeshadows. If you go stronger eyeshadow tones keep the lipstick at minimum, just use lip gloss, and very little blush. Always remember that blush has to be lighter than your lipstick. Use black mascara, this should make your beautiful eyes stand out...

Actually, I would steer clear of blonde because I think a) it would clash with the red tones and create way too many colors and it would look streaky and b) it would look unnatural which is exactly how highlights are NOT supposed to look. You don't say whether the red tones are warm( like a copper or auburn) or cool( like a true red or burgandy) If it is warm I say go for either a lighter copper such as strawberry blonde or if you don't want more red, a light to medium golden brown. If it is a cooler tone than stick with a rust or another lighter red or a light to medium ash brown or mahogany. Highlights look best when they are no more than 2 or 3 shades lighter than the color you already have. The point is to look like your hair has natural highs and lows as this what virgin hair looks like. Anything that looks too obvious just looks too processed.

Well, depends on your age.. Men don't like it. And Guys ages 13-16 think it looks like birds crapped in your hair. even if its blended.. I know this from experience. So i keep it all natural now.. Just use some of that spray from WalMart. It doesnt change it TOO much and no one could say it looked like a bird crapped in it b/c there would be no streaks!!

-Try a temporary Dye that washes within 8 washes just to see the reactions, If good get it permenantly, If bad, Don't. kk%26lt;3Me

It's not the color, it's the peroxide. You may have to bleach to get the red to show up. But you need a REALLY good conditioner. Get one for color treated hair. A professional one.

Red highlightes look awesome on black hair, i would get a dark red so it doesn't stand out too much, and if your going to do it yourself and not professionaly, then i would be very careful. But i would reccommend that you get it done professionally, b/c when it comes to putting dye on top of dye, it might turn out a funky color.

honestly your hair will feel more damaged,thats a fact black is verry hard to get out of the hair so go to a professional salon and make sure they are a certified color expert! trust me if done this b4!!keep in mind that red also comes out of the hair the fastest it fades quick!! after coloring your hair get some conditioner for color treated hair try paul mitchell it works great but purchase at salon or beauty supply only!!i would also get a shampoo and conditioner for reds to keep the color longer!! make sure to take a pic with you to the salon so they know exactly what you want done!!!good luck =}

It would be ok and it would look cool, but do them around the bottom layers of ur hair and not on the top cuz the contrast would be too harsh, the only problem with black is that its very hard to get rid of so use a demi-permanent black hair dye which lasts for about 1-2 months then fades or use a dark brown permanent dye which is easier to dye back to blonde when u get bored. Try that root touch up stuff by clariol. You might save yourself a ton of money this way, as sometimes they are on sale for $5.00. You can add the color just a little at a time. Just a suggestion. If you get it done professionally, it is called "low-lights". Black might be too harsh.

No, I wouldn't recommend on black highlights. Use a dark brown or a caramel color that you like. This would look much more natural for your hair. Red with pink verses golden hair? Seems like an extreme difference to me. I'm a stylist and I can tell you, the first one is fun and crazy but you will get sick of it and you can always change it. Golden with highlights is a possibility of getting a serious bf. You put out what you want back.

I have been coloring my hair myself for a long time. I also have gone to salons to get it done, and my hair is healthier when I do it myself.

You do have to be careful if you lighten your hair at home, but if you use a kit intended for at-home use and you follow the instructions, you should be fine. However, it's hard to judge if it's even or not, so I would still suggest going to a stylist or at least having someone check to make sure that everything is evenly covered.

As for damaging brain cells... wouldn't getting your hair done in a salon damage brain cell as well? That's really not true. It won't cause brain damage, and if you are truly worried, consult a doctor before coloring.

There aren't really any cons, and it's very likely that dye will make your hair thicker, because it expands the hair shaft. But your hair will be unhealthy if it's over-processed, so be careful with what you do to your hair, and know that what your hair can take has limits.

it wont damage your brain cells. just be careful what products you use if you do it yourself. herbal essences and feria are really hard to get out of your hair! and if you dont like it, your stuck! also, box color black is really hard on the hair and its almost impossible to correct. im a stylist and i see this all the time. but, id say keep doing it, just be careful what you use:)

Well, your hair continues to grow all through your life, so dyeing it now can't affect how it will be later. Dyeing it alot can dry it out, because of the ammonia in most dyes.

The most important thing is just to take care of it. Use a good hydrating shampoo and conditioner. You can even buy the really good L'Oreal once a week conditioner (that comes with the dye) separately now. That's what I use and my hair's in great shape.

your question was kind of confusing. but if you want to dye your hair always get it done by proffesionals. not your sister, mom, or best friend (unless they are the proffesionals). because the boxed dyes will change your hair to be something else. And dyeing your hair TOO MUCH will damage it. My friends mom does it all the time and it lost its silkiness, shinyness, and its softness. Its like one glob. its ok to do it every once and awhile but not constantly. i dont believe that it will kill brain cells. it might but i dont know. but i do know that it will do something funky to your head. and i do believe its bad for you to inhale the dye. i would know. you should really talk to a hair stylist or look it up on google.

having dark brown hair can be difficult to lift up to a pretty blonde. if you pull it through a cap instead of having it foiled, sometimes you can get a second bleach cap. this just means a second process. sometimes i will pull my customers through a cap, process it for maybe 15 min, cuz you never want to leave then under the dryer too long. rinse it, keep the cap on, dry it , then apply a second application of bleach, then process it again. you got to be careful because this can should only be done that hair that is in good condition. if it's dry and damaged it just going to melt it. you could always just get some honey highlights put it, and go blonder gradually.
